Publisher Description

"The death of all was consummated in the Lord's body; yet, because the Word was in it, death and corruption were in the same act utterly abolished."

On the Incarnation is an early treatise written by Athanasius (4th AD), one of the most deft theological-philosophical thinkers in the early church. Though Athanasius exhibited such unusual genius, his writing style and arguments are surprisingly easy-to-read. This text is just as potent for Church dogmatics today, since the doctrine of Christ's incarnation has always been under attack. Though under the discerning light of this treatise, these controversies simply show themselves to be the age-old heresies which Athanasius grappled with.

This electronic edition features an introduction by C.S. Lewis and an active table of contents.

    A Timeless and Brilliant Work

Athanasius writes with clarity and urgency, making much of the victories of Christ over all things. This is a must-read for any Christian. Athanasius effortlessly demonstrates the cosmic implications os Christ becoming human in a way that leads a person to understand all of reality through Christ. For Athanasius, cosmology and Christology are inseparable. Easy 5/5. This translation has grammatical and spelling errors, but they do not obscure the meaning or message of the text.

    A-must-read

I'll take CS Lewis advice from now on. We must read the classics; we must read those books of which many wise men have spoken through the ages. For me it’s like finally understanding so many things I hear mens of God preaching about. I find in Athanasius’ On the Incarnation, a complete theology on what I believe and why I believe. It’s amazing how much can be said in such a short book. It is as Athanasius put it, our Lord defeated all Greek’s wisdom, with simpler but power words...
