About Jared Dines

Jared Dines is a Seattle-born multi-instrumentalist, comedian, and video content creator who became one of the most widely streamed metal musicians by the end of the 2010s. In his youth, Dines was exposed to the sounds of Van Halen and Black Sabbath before discovering the likes of Killswitch Engage and Norma Jean. In time, he mastered the guitar, bass, and drums while developing his vocal strengths. One of the earliest acts in which he performed was Silence Ended, and by 2010 he had become a key songwriter and guitarist for They Charge Like Warriors, who released a self-titled, self-produced EP that same year. In 2011, the act issued their first professionally produced track, "Abaddon" -- with Blessed by a Broken Heart's Joel Casey Jones -- before splitting the following year. In 2013, Dines joined Dissimulator, who self-released two albums, Factions and This Is Darkness. In October 2014, Dines uploaded a video parodying metal genres, creating a flurry of interest, and collaborations with established streamer Rob Scallon cemented his position as an online celebrity. Subsequent videos included everything from skits where Dines played a reckless, heavy-handed guitar shop customer to performances of what acts such as Maroon 5, Eminem, and Lady Gaga would sound like if they went the metal route. Initially, this online success didn’t hamper his orthodox music output. In 2015, he formed and drummed for Rest, Repose on their debut EP Sleep City and released two solo EPs -- The Dark and The Light -- in 2016. Dissimulator split later that year, and Dines played guitar on sessions for what became the first and only Rest, Repose full-length. He struck up a close friendship with Matt Heafy of Trivium, and when Heafy's twins were born in 2018, Dines was asked to fill in for him on guitar for the duration of the Orlando, Florida act's tour. The always busy Dines also played guitar in Daddy Rock between 2017 and 2019. This quartet featured Damien Ward on drums, alongside Anthony Cappocchi and Vincent Mindas (both former members of Rest, Repose, an act that Dines finally left in early 2019 when their touring began to interfere with his online activity). Summer 2020 brought a third solo EP, Shred Feast, which featured Heafy and Lee McKinney from Born of Osiris, and shortly thereafter, Dines again collaborated with Heafy for December's Dines X Heafy EP. ~ James Wilkinson
