About Brian Fresco

Rapper Brian Fresco rose to fame as a member of the Chicago collective SaveMoney, which also featured artists like Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa, and Towkio. Hailing from the Ida B. Wells and Harold Ickes projects in Chicago, Fresco first discovered music in fourth grade at the Beasley Academic Center. His classmate and friend Kami De Chukwu (later known simply as Kami, and part of the SaveMoney collective) became infatuated with Eminem's record The Eminem Show. During high school he was also a keen sportsman, which earned him an offer to play college football for Wisconsin. He turned that down, and his subsequent tenure at Middle Tennessee State University was short-lived, as he was swiftly drawn back to Chicago to chase a career in music. Upon his return, he began work on what would become his debut mixtape, 2013's Mafioso. Following the EP's release, Fresco's attention was diverted from music as he moved out of his parent's house and had his first child. A call from prominent Chicago MC Tree put his musical career back on track, as the pair collaborated on the Soulmoney EP. That release earned the burgeoning star a place on RedEye's Top 15 Acts to Watch in 2015. His affiliation with the SaveMoney Collective continued to aid his profile with the award-winning Chance the Rapper making an appearance on the lead single "Higher" from his next project, Casanova. The Casanova mixtape was released in 2017. ~ Bekki Bemrose
