About Jesse & Joy

The Mexican pop-rock duo Jesse & Joy have always been about crossing borders. The siblings were born Jesse Eduardo Huerta Uecke in 1982 and Tirzah Joy Huerta Uecke in 1986 respectively, and they had a bilingual upbringing in Mexico City with a Mexican father and an American mother. That bicultural vibe fed into their musical development: As kids they fell in love with the classic rock and folk music their parents adored, and by their teens, they began making music, with Jesse on guitar, piano, and drums and Joy on the vocals and guitar. Their sound—a folksy pop-rock helmed by Joy’s clarion call of a voice—hit at just the right moment: The charts were full of artists like Julieta Venegas and Juanes who skirted the line between similar genres. The duo signed with Warner in 2005 and a year later dropped their debut, Esta Es Mi Vida, which took off thanks to the churning, supercharged love song “Espacio Sideral.” More popular—and Latin Grammy-winning—releases followed at a cadence of once every three years, and in 2015, they released Un Besito Más, earning their first American Grammy for it in 2017. In 2020 they returned, both of them as new parents, with a refreshed sound in which they collaborated with artists like Luis Fonsi and J Balvin, instinctively finding ways to meet a musical moment when urbano ruled the airwaves without sacrificing the heartfelt singer/songwriter vibe that has always defined them.
