Few of the public are aware of the complexities of this system. To get what was basically an aluminum machine through a 3000 degree F reentry required some revolutionary technology. Great book from a very knowledgeable space enthusiast. The complexity of the sapce shuttle is generally missunderstood by the general observer. This book describes the process and technique used to create the tiles plus the reasoning behind the manufacturing. The engineers were ingenious who created this heat shield. Much thanks Mr. Milgrom for your enlightening book.
