Doug Burr is a singer/songwriter from Denton, Texas, who got a later jump than many others on his dream; he didn't become a performing musician until he was married and in his late 20s. But he works at a profession where the best songs come from advanced living and the benefits of hindsight and introspection. An acoustic-based midtempo song like “I Love to Hate You” is supercharged by its emotional honesty, while “Revolution Son Blues” features a grisly backup band emulating the best of Tom Waits’ later work. “No Human Voice” brings forth the pretty ballad that every learned songwriter keeps in reserve.
