About Saba
Known for introspective lyrics that place personal hardships in the context of larger issues, Saba became a leading light of the fertile 2010s Chicago hip-hop scene. • Saba began playing piano at age seven and eventually learned how to make beats. • A naturally talented learner, he started high school at age 12 and graduated at 16 with a 3.5 GPA. He launched his rap career by passing out mixtapes in the hallways. • Saba’s 2012 debut mixtape, GETCOMFORTable, features numerous rising artists, including fellow Chicago rhymer Mick Jenkins. • In 2013, Saba guested on “Everybody’s Something,” off Chance The Rapper’s acclaimed Acid Rap mixtape. The following year, Saba released his breakthrough sophomore mixtape, Comfort Zone, inspired by his experiences growing up. • The rapper showcased his flow on “SmthnthtIwnt,” off 2015’s Surf, the celebrated debut album by the Chance-affiliated collective Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment. • Saba earned raves for his 2018 sophomore album, CARE FOR ME, written in the aftermath of the murder of his close friend and cousin Walter Long Jr.
