The Dogstar and Busted frontman leaves his heavy rock roots behind with a softer, rousing second solo outing with a taste of the Deep South. Opening with a pared back version of old rock ballad "Emily" and moving on to the end-of-summer bittersweetness of "Barricades of Heaven", the love stories abound. There's an unexpected injection of sunny disposition, too: "If I Hide, Will You Come Looking?", and "Long Road Home" are both blissful honky tonk rides back to the 70s, while "Parachutes" is pure summer folk-pop.
