EmilyGaudreau ,

Defiantly thought provoking

Now that most parents are taking on the role of at least part-time educators for their kids, The Luminous Mind is an amazing resource for ALL, secular or not. Rebecca asks great questions, and I always listen to the end of all her episodes (which is RARE for me). Keep up the great work!!!!!

Episode 233 featuring Elizabeth Lang’s

What an excellent and inspiring story! Like Elizabeth, I also believe that teacher education programs should strive to explore the many different ways to use a degree in education. There are so many avenues in which to use your expertise, and some may look quite different than others! Keep up the great work! Thanks for the relevant topics! Love your show!👊🏻🍎

Missed the mark, I’m sorry

I initially found this podcast a few years ago, recommended on a blog for secular homeschoolers. I LOVED the direction of The Luminous Mind for a long time, but it slowly became more and more about faith-based homeschooling. Not that I think all homeschoolers should be secular, by any means, but it was refreshing to listen and gain knowledge on education without added religious undertones. I dropped off listening, but recently thought I’d give it another try. Unfortunately, the episode with the owner of Apologia put the final nail in the proverbial coffin. The religious bias of that curriculum is so far from being evidence-based, and to hear the podcast host refer to Darwinian theory of evolution as “theology” has proven her lack of knowledge on fundamental science, as well.
As someone who was homeschooled in the 90’s when it was pretty well known as a religious practice, it’s been refreshing to see the stigma around homeschooling shift away from us being sheltered and indoctrinated, especially as I homeschool my own 4 children. Hearing the push for a curriculum that teaches that languages spawned from the Tower of Babel (sourced by nothing but the Bible) and Creation-based science (sourced by nothing but the Bible) is deflating as a member of the homeschooling community and has severely dashed the credibility of the host for me.
