On Hollowed, Brightons Ital Tek trades his habitual jungle and dubstep rhythms for a more varied—and more contemplative—vision of bass music. The cycling pulses of Beyond Sight recall Philip Glass, while Murmur fuses hip-hop drums with contemporary classical sounds and Cobra suggests a kind of gothic trap. Buzzing synths and processed guitars give the music an unusually physical heft, particularly on the gut-rumbling Reflection Through Destruction. The organs of Vesper and Vacuum I, meanwhile, offer two contrasting takes on ambient music—both of them equally gorgeous.
