This Montreal duo hark back to the austere, abrasively avant-garde days of synthesised post-punk: Cabaret Voltaire, The Normal’s “Warm Leatherette” and early Human League. Distortions in the title cut and oscillations in “Dépassée par le fantasme” are ominously disorienting, while songs like “Lights Out” echo mid-’80s Chicago acid house and Detroit techno under deadpan French chanting and chirping. Yet there’s a Twin Peaks-like beauty to “La chute”, while ghost-of-Joy Division goth tones meet an obsessive Eurodisco pulse on “Facing the Music”.
