Few bands survived Malaysia’s mid-‘00s indie rock renaissance, let alone broke through to the mainstream. Hujan managed both. Two factors can be credited for their longevity: the loyalty of the Raingers (their fans) and their commitment to a changing, chameleonic sound that has taken on different hues since the band’s 2005 inception. EP Pelangi Dan Kau and LP Jika Sempat are the perfect primers for their evolving style, which delves into garage rock as readily as metalcore and exemplifies founding members Noh Salleh and AG Coco’s belief that their music should be an expression of their own personal style.
