In 2006, the fifth album from this Richmond, Virginia metal band landed them their first Billboard Top 10 chart debut, their first Grammy nomination (for lead single “Redneck”), and their first network TV appearance (performing “Pathetic” on Late Night with Conan O’Brien). But more importantly, the album’s mix of grooves and abrasiveness helped establish the stylistically eclectic so-called New Wave of American Heavy Metal—of which Lamb of God were undoubtedly leaders—as a combustive, turbulent commercial force.
