Anita O'Day At Mister Kelly's

Anita O'Day At Mister Kelly's

Jazz singer Anita O’Day taps both her playful and profound sides on this 1958 live album, cut in the titular Chicago club. After a finely tuned scat workout on the jumping “Tea for Two,” her streetwise rasp perfectly suits the bone-dry punchlines on “Everytime I’m With You.” That quietly swinging irreverence also comes in handy on “But Not for Me,” but O’Day proves herself just as well suited to the somber lamentations of “Loneliness Is a Well” and “The Wildest Gal In Town.”
