The Most Nutrient Dense & Beneficial Veggies You Can Eat

The Most Nutrient Dense & Beneficial Veggies You Can Eat

Your body is the vehicle for all your drive, so we seek to strengthen it for you in this episode. We live in a culture where many people don’t eat many vegetables, and if they do, they gravitate towards the least beneficial. Food is your best medicine, so here is your guide to getting the most out of your veggies. And the goal? Make veggies half or more of every meal. Not the side. Meat and grains and other are your side. But to vegetables, not all are created equal. In a recent episode, Dr James quipped about his kids going for the most sugar-full veggies like carrots and snap peas and it sparked a listener to ask which veggies were in fact, “better”. We intended to discuss the “better” foods in five categories but found just getting through veggies was a complete episode. To give you some Cliff’s Notes, his “top tier” picks for the most nutrient dense veggies were broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, spinach, cabbage (especially purple) and kale. Tier two? Peas, corn, carrots and okra. Why? You’ll serve yourself well to understand, so in this episode Dr Randy James and I break it down. Quick call out to my new friend, Kathy. She’s been a listener for years, loves these health focused shows I do with Dr James, and this week surprised me by showing up at his practice, True Life Medicine, here in Colorado. She flew in to become a patient.. I came out to see someone in the foyer and she recognized my voice, not realizing my studio is in his office building. We had a great visit. You can check out what Randy can offer you at truelifemedicine.com. Got any questions? Hit me up, kevin@kevinmiller.co. OK, next up, Randy and I give you the lowdown on the best veggies.

Enjoying The Ride vs Achieving The Destination - Which Is More Important?

Enjoying The Ride vs Achieving The Destination - Which Is More Important?

It will surprise you for me to say, it depends. We all have something we want and the clarity of what we want and why is what makes up our drive. The cultural and high achiever perspective is to but super disciplined, give everything up for the sake of the end goal, delay all gratification for the sake of the prize and never, ever, ever quit! Well, we all know of people who did this and never found any joy. So let's talk about this and break it down so you can apply it to your drive.

6 Steps To Being Authentic When You Are a People Pleaser

6 Steps To Being Authentic When You Are a People Pleaser

We've been talking about belonging and how true belonging is not merely "fitting in." Thanks to Ritu Bhasin, author of We've Got This, for bringing us to the concept. For all of you who are people pleasers...who don't like conflict, the idea of being authentic can feel scary and feel like to be natural we've got to offend people. I just can't embrace this but I'm learning how to better navigate being authentic, while not being confrontational. Walk with me a minute and I think I can bring you some understanding and comfort that will let you be you, while also being more true to yourself and at peace with others. Here are six steps that will help.

How To Belong To Yourself When You Are A Tool

How To Belong To Yourself When You Are A Tool

In my previous episode with Ritu Bhasin, author of We Got This, we dove deep into the concept of belonging and she wisely stated we must first begin by belonging to ourselves. Few of us were ever taught anything about our relationship with ourselves and to many, like me, the very concept is obtuse and awkward. It's taken me a long time to recognize that some people are just...good with themselves. They are comfortable in their own skin. And I want that. I want peace. I'm tired of the anxiety of never measuring up to myself. And you can’t measure up when you think of yourself as merely a tool to get things done. Which many of you do as well. Let’s get the issue on the table so we can course correct.

Ritu Bhasin On How To Find True Belonging Vs Merely Fitting In

Ritu Bhasin On How To Find True Belonging Vs Merely Fitting In

One of the key drives of our lives is to belong. To truly belong where we are known and accepted and respected, if not loved. We often mistake fitting in for belonging. We perform to fit in at school, at work, at church, or with family. And that’s the rub, we’re performing. We’re not being ourselves. And we don’t find true belonging. My expert on belonging is Ritu Bhasin, who is a global expert on diversity, equity, and inclusion and has worked with hundreds of world-renowned organizations to help guide people to becoming their authentic selves, which as you’re about to hear is step on in belonging. Ritu has been a professional speaker for almost 15 years and has presented to 100,000s+ people globally. Her book is called We’ve Got This: Unlocking The Beauty Of Belonging. We discuss the first step in belonging is belonging to yourself. And this is the hardest step. We talked long on what being authentic really entails, when almost all of us were taught to perform. We discuss the difference between being untrue to yourself and adapting to others out of respect and love. And we cover issues of personal credibility and how those who are marginalized in any way have more barriers to cross on the path to belonging, and how they can advocate for themselves. Connect with Ritu at ritubhasin.com. Next up, we talk about how to achieve one of your greatest drives of all, the drive to authentically, belong.

An Exhaustive Review Of The Best Sleep Habits

An Exhaustive Review Of The Best Sleep Habits

You are driven by your values and today we discuss the value of feeling good, and we look at sleep. Think about this, everyday we must eat. But we can eat junk food and feel like crap, or we can eat wonderful, healthy food and feel great. It’s the same with sleep. Everyday we sleep, and we can do some things and get horrid, non-rejuvenating sleep, or we can do other things and get great, recharging and refreshing sleep. I’ve learned I can’t always judge my sleep on how I think I slept. Sometimes I’m out like a light, wake in the morning feeling ok, only to crash later in the day. And other times where I feel I tossed and turned some, I wasn’t ready to wake up when I did, but I had good energy for the day. This show is about the tangible habits we can employ to give ourselves a better chance of getting quality sleep. I’m talking with medical doctor, functional medicine expert and my close friend, Randy James. As we unpacked good sleep habits we were a bit surprised to realize just how many integers there are regarding our sleep. From the food we eat prior to sleep, to our mattress, to light and sound and even the topic of our last waking thought. What we thought would be a quick run through of our list turned into a much longer discussion and resulted in even us realizing just how many things can influence our sleep quality
