Publisher Description

In ten years of working for the Damask Circle, shapeshifter Katherine Tanner has never come across anything like this child-murdering monster. Although she doesn't want to confront it, the Circle gives her little choice. The last thing she needs is interference from a cop who doesn't know what he's up against.

Ethan Morgan's niece is missing and he's determined to bring her back alive and catch the monster behind these kidnappings. He will use anyone to achieve his aims - even a woman who claims to be a witch.

Forced to join forces, Ethan and Kat struggle to uncover clues that will lead them to the monster's lair. Yet time is ticking away and the monster rarely keeps victims alive for more than seven days. Four of those days have already passed. But it soon becomes clear that the greatest threat to Kat might not come from the forces of darkness, but from the man she is beginning to love.

This book is too reminiscent of the first book in the series

I have this slight issue, it’s a common problem, I buy books then they sit on my bookshelf looking pretty while I read newer books which have arrived more recently! This year I decided I needed to tackle the backlog of books waiting patiently on my shelves and Circle of Desire is one of those books. I read the first two books in the Damask Circle series when they were released so I am quite a way behind with this one.

Keri Arthur has always been one of my favourites in the paranormal romance genre. Her writing is like a hug from a good friend and as soon as you start reading you are enveloped into her world. It is easy to read, not overwhelming, yet she is emotive, and uses evocative storylines with some great characters on both sides of the good/bad divide.

Circle of Desire reminded me a little of the first book in this series Circle of Fire, in this book though we are missing young children not teenagers and the characters are far more gutsy and forthright.

I did find some flaws in the characters which grated on me throughout the book Katherine (Kat) was quite contradictory there would be passages where she would almost whine about what she wanted in terms of a future then she would give in to Ethan’s demands.

Ethan on the other hand came across very naive and at times a bit stupid.

Of course all this is going on while they are hunting supernatural killers and missing children including Ethan’s Niece which is a little hard to swallow.

The character who steals the show for me is Kat’s grandmother, Gwen, she is an absolute superstar and has some of the best lines in the book.

Overall, this is a really enjoyable read, I read it in one sitting, but it doesn’t take itself too seriously so it’s important that you don’t either.
