Mapping the Rendezvous

Mapping the Rendezvous

Eight years in and backed by a cult-like following (they sold out Manchester's 25,000 capacity Heaton Park in under an hour), Courteeners are still raising hell on their fifth record. There are plenty of the hallmark beer-flinging anthems—“Kitchen” even adds a swaggering ‘80s-flavoured groove—but tender flourishes betray frontman Liam Fray’s love of poetry writing. “Finest Hour” packs candlelit piano, and the wistful “De La Salle” is like an exhumed nugget of Britpop gold.
