Fletcher, a British actress and host of the YouTube channel It's Way Past My Bedtime, debuts with what she calls "the manual I yearned for when I was a teenager." Her own black-and-white line illustrations are interspersed throughout the kinds of doodles one might see in the margins of a student's notebook. Dividing the book into eight "acts" (with titles like "How to Get Your Heart Broken Only Just a Little Bit"), Fletcher discusses how to navigate social and home life, school, professional goals, and relationships, bolstered by examples from her own life; for example, after jumping between relationships, afraid to be alone, she spent much of a year single in an effort to become more independent. Fletcher openly addresses the ebbs and flows of adolescence, pursuing goals, and sometimes letting go of them: "If you decide to change those dreams after having wanted them for so long, it doesn't make you a failure. It makes you smart, realistic and above all honest with yourself." Ages 12 up.

I LOVE CARRIE SO MUCH. SHES SO INSPIRATIONAL AND AMAZING AND LEGIT THE BEST THING EVER. SHES MY ROLE MODEL AND I WISH HER THE BEST. THIS BOOK IS SO AWESOME
Nothing special
A somewhat self indulgent glance into the life of Carrie Hope Fletcher, she manages to be smug and superior whilst giving out generic and patronising advice. Supposedly aimed at teenagers but with the language and anecdotes of something aimed at twelve year olds, this book is nothing special. I'm sure her "hopefuls" all love it, but this is Carrie demonstrating her fatal flaw through literature, that flaw being her extreme morality to the point of being devoid of personality. I want to scream at her to actually enjoy life, to do something mean to someone she doesn't like and not regret it and spend twelve pages apologising and to actually live life as a normal human. I'm sure she's a great role model through preaching behaving perfectly and never ever doing anything remotely controversial but it makes this book tedious reading.
