The dreaminess of this album is no surprise, given the trio: Indian sarangi master Suhail Yusuf Khan, Scottish folk guitarist James Yorkston and double bassist Jon Thorne of the jazz-tronic Lamb. But for all the meditation found here ("Vachaspati/Kaavya" offers acres of wordless beauty), there's playfulness, too; just listen to their vocal-swapping cover of Ivor Cutler’s “Little Black Buzzer”, where Yorkston plays the Swedish nyckelharpa and someone beatboxes a tabla. With a focus on spiritual concerns ("Sufi Song") and globally shared melodies, these rich fusions achieve a beatific harmony.
