The Scots’ mastery of warm-souled alt-rock continues on their 11th album. After 27 years, Teenage Fanclub’s foundations remain the same: heart-lifting melodies, three-part harmonies and the subtle excellence of three superb songwriters. Gerard Love evokes 1995’s career-high Grand Prix with “Thin Air”’s fuzz-rock, Norman Blake’s string-mottled “The Darkest Part of the Night” ranks among their best work and Raymond McGinley refreshes the sonic palette with “Steady State”’s airy psych. A triumph, as always.
