From the second Barry Steakfries busts through that laboratory wall, Jetpack Joyride thrusts you into an unforgettable horizontal adventure. This stylish infinite runner gets your pulse pounding as you feverishly snag coins, dodge obstacles and take rides in crazy vehicles (think: robotic dragons and money-propelled birds). It’s a classic that’s only gotten better over the years, thanks to Halfbrick Studios' consistent updates.
Great game, but annoying issue
Great game, very enjoyable and addictive. However, on my iPhone 6S, the game is very slow at loading, and freezes for about 5-10 seconds after certain events (such as completing a mission or pausing the game). The game is also unplayable if you start a game with wifi on, with split seconds of movement in-between 10-15 seconds of a frozen screen. Luckily, this can be worked around by starting a game without wifi, then turning wifi on midway through the game, meaning that I can still get S.A.M.. It also crashes occasionally during loading, and the crashing seems to have got worse with the recent update. Not sure whether this is a compatibility issue etc, but I would really love if this could be fixed if at all possible! Thanks for an otherwise brilliant game!
UPDATE: A great game ruined
My original five star review is below. That was in 2011. By 2016 this game has been ruined by greed. It is one thing making the game free-to-play – quite another to force players to watch unskippable video advertisements after each round. I paid for this game; many others have paid multiple times over through in-app purchases. To then force ads on us is utterly gratuitous. Don't encourage such malign practices. Delete, avoid, forget – and try not to dwell on the tragedy of Halfbrick and what they have become. ----- My original review from 2011: This feels like the first fully mature example of what can be done with games on iOS: it's simple on the surface, easy to pick up and play, but packed underneath with layer upon layer of well thought out and original rewards, upgrades and changing dynamics to keep you coming back. It also has a genuinely beautiful design, exhibiting 2D charm and a wicked wit that has not been so skilfully carried off since the days of Rareware on the SNES. And all as a universal app for 69p. Halfbrick deserve to make a fortune out of this. It's fantastic. The only thing else I'd like to see would be more lives to prolong sessions, and somewhere we can purchase merchandise that shows off the wonderful artwork. Posters and t-shirts please!
